With a load cell with enough safe overload, you don't need to select a load cell with larger capacity than actually needed, thus will not sacrifice accuracy.
Here, this table show the spec comparison between SCB: high stiffness compression type load cell and UNBF: a conventional compression type load cell.
The accuracy (non-linearity) of SCB is 0.2%FS. Thus, when choosing SCB-1kN (rated capacity of 1kN), ±2N of error may occur at most. In addition, the safe overload is 500%; in case the rated capacity is 1kN, the load cell will not break up until 5kN of overload is applied.
Meanwhile, UNBF-1kN (rated capacity of 1kN) will break when 1.5kN or more load is applied. That's why, it is common to choose the load cell with a larger rated capacity(2kN), just to be safe.
When choosing UNBF-2kN (rated capacity of 2kN), ±4N of error may occur at most as its accuracy (non-linearity) is 0.2%FS. Moreover, the safe overload is 150%; the load cell will not break up until 3kN of overload is applied.
In short, when comparing SCB-1kN and UNBF-2kN, the accuracy of SCB-1kN is 2 times greater than UNBF-2kN, and also SCB-1kN is more durable than UNBF-2kN.
In addition, risk at breaking of wire is quite low as the flexible cable is used for these load cells.
